Conservation of Mass

The conservation of mass is a fundamental law of nature which states that matter can neither be created nor destroyed. The law allows us to write the so-called mass balance equations. For example for a system working under steady state conditions, we can write:

which means that the algebraic sum of mass flow of the fluids to (+) and from (-) a system is zero.
